Welcome to the MBC members area. This is your gateway to all the news, updates, events and resources you will need to support you and your organisation in embedding the Mindful Business Charter.
We were very kindly joined on this Signatory Call by a selection of fantastic individuals - starting with Russell Rochford from Mathesons, who shared insights into the "right to disconnect" a policy which France, Belgium and Australia, amongst others, have brought into legislation and codes of practice for employers to enable employees to refuse to engage in work activity outside of their contracted hours.
You may be aware of Labours proposed plans to bring in “The right to disconnect” for the UK – and Russell's insights are a great starting point to understand how they might affect your organisation, either directly if you are in a "right to disconnect" jurisdiction, or if you conduct business with other firms in those countries.
We also heard from Brent Pope - former All Black rugby player and now a commentator and TV personality in Ireland as well as a mental health campaigner and the driving force behind the Elephant in the Room an initiative to tackle the stigma that still surrounds mental health and Lorraine Roche, also of Matheson, who spoke about their adoption of the initiative.

At times we will find ourselves stuck in unhelpful thinking patterns, affected by biases, overwhelmed by emotion, and applying inaccurate judgements and assumptions that leave us feeling negative and overwhelmed. In this session, led by psychotherapist Charlotte Clegg, we look at why this happens, who experiences it, what some of the more common thought traps are, and, importantly, how we can constructively challenge our thoughts in a way that will allow us to think and proceed with clarity and fair judgement.
(Please note that due to potentially weather induced problems with the internet network, there are several disruptions to this recording - but nevertheless, we didn't allow the adverse conditions to get the better of us, didn't succumb to any negative thinking, and persisted with good humour!)

We sometimes hear that there is a conflict between wellbeing and the bottom line. As this collection of research shows, that isn't the case - they are the same thing. This bank of facts, figures and statistics looks at the impact that not prioritising wellbeing as a business priority has on the business, and ultimately, the bottom line, looking at areas such as absence, recruitment, mistakes/insurance and retention.

As you will no doubt be aware, Richard and Charlotte were in New York for the first week of September to bring the MBC to the US. We already have a number of international firms with offices in the US as part of the membership community, but we recognise, particularly in the legal sector, that the US market influences the world, and so we wanted to take the opportunity to further our links, build relationships and develop our offering in America.
We were incredibly lucky to be joined by some excellent speakers and supporters, and you can catch up on the recordings below.
Ben Carpenter - U.S. Bank Guidelines
Lucinda Soon - Research Analysis - Legal Wellbeing
Charlotte Clegg - The MBC Member Experience and Commercial Argument

Our Trustees provide strategic guidance, governance and support for the MBC, enriched by their years of experience in a variety of areas. This section provides a short introduction to them all and outlines their areas of responsibility.
As a signatory you can use these Logos and Visual assets on internal and external communication to help send the message that you are committed to reducing unnecessary stress through aligning with the MBC.
The more organisations that understand what we, the MBC and all its signatories are trying to do, the more effective we can be. It really helps if you can talk to your partner organisations about the MBC and how it supports your employees and there ways of working. To help you with those discussions we have created some resources for you.
Here you can find toolkits to get the ball rolling – straightforward guidance on how to embed the MBC principles into your organisation.
Digital wellbeing is an important factor in reducing unnecessary stress in the workplace. We can’t possibly be operating at our best if we are constantly interrupted by notifications, feeling the need to refresh our inbox out of hours, and ending up in cc chains that add no benefit to our day.
Developed by digital wellbeing experts Shine offline, these six bite size modules allow you to develop your understanding and gain practical tips to improve your relationship with your tech. It includes expert opinions from authors, psychologists and thought leaders, along with challenges, quizzes and accompanying written resources.
Each module is between 13 and 20 minutes, making it easy to allocate time to your development, either completing one a week, or whenever suits you.
As you travel along your MBC journey you may find you want to explore things in more depth, enrol Champions to help you strengthen the message across the organisation, or pick up some tips from organisations who are a little further along than you. This section provides you with a wealth of resources, so you don’t have to reinvent the wheel. Feel free to use them as a starting point to adapt them to your organisation.
MBC is a charity; we take our governance responsibilities seriously and want to be open and transparent. In this section you will find documents about that in practice - our constitution, details of our AGMs and the reports the trustees produce annually to describe our activity.
