Our Values

How we (whether employees, members, contractors, speakers, trustees or collaborators) operate and act with regard to each other is critical both to our broader purpose and to the sense of respect and collaboration which underpins our community. This code therefore sets out what we expect of each other in our work as a community.

The MBC Statement of Values

The Mindful Business Charter is a community of employer organisations whose aim is to reduce the causes of unnecessary stress to create healthier and more productive workplaces. How we (whether employees, members, contractors, speakers, trustees or collaborators) operate and act with regard to each other is critical both to that broader purpose and to the sense of respect and collaboration which underpins that community. This code therefore sets out what we expect of each other in our work as a community.

Our Values

  • Community – Community is core to MBC. Our community is built on respect for each other and on equality and inclusion. We believe that no group or individual should experience discrimination, whether covert or overt, based on race, nationality, gender, sex, sexual orientation, disability, neurodivergence, age, or socio-economic background. We are inclusive and we encourage and enable all voices to be heard, especially those which are traditionally underrepresented.
  • Care – We care about ourselves and our wellbeing, about each other and their wellbeing, and about our work. In our work we strive for excellence in all we do but not at the cost of our own wellbeing or that of anyone else.
  • Collaboration – We work together to achieve our common purpose. We share best practice, ideas, resources and challenges and welcome opportunity to collaborate within and outside our community. Collaboration depends upon open and honest two-way conversation and feedback as well as integrity and respect for each other and for the trust placed in us by the community.

These values underpin all of our work, and we expect them to be upheld and respected by the community at all times. This code of conduct should be read and understood in that context.

Living Our Values

We will:

  • Keep the Values in mind at all times in our MBC related work, communications and interactions and adhere to them as far as possible.
  • Comply with any relevant laws and regulations and avoid any conduct which would bring the MBC into disrepute.
  • Ensure that any services offered to the MBC and its community are done so within the competency and skill level of the individual and are kept up to date with any necessary training or CPD.
  • Ensure that any renumeration offered to employees of the Mindful Business Charter or third parties operating on its behalf is done so on the basis of a living wage at a minimum.
  • Ensure that our ways of working align with the Mindful Business Charter.
  • Ensure that our behaviour doesn’t result in negative impacts on the reputation or activity of the MBC.
  • Report any discriminatory behaviour, or anything that could be construed as bullying, harassment, or victimisation carried out by other MBC Community members to the Executive Team or Trustees at the earliest possible opportunity.
  • Respect the community and the opportunities that may arise to communicate with it. Contracted speakers and collaborators should not seek to “sell” their services to the community members nor make unsolicited approaches to them to promote such services. In the event of any uncertainty in this regard please speak to a member of the executive team of MBC.
  • Identify and disclose to the Executive Team or Trustees any conflicts of interest that may arise in a manner that maintains the trust placed in us and ensures decision making can be made independently and with an understanding of all the salient facts.
