May 2021 signing event from 5.30 to 6.45pm

Thursday, May 13, 2021

An evening to reflect and welcome new signatories 13 May 2021 from 5.30 to 6.45 pm Via Zoom We are pleased to invite you to our Mindful Business Charter event on 13 May 2021, to mark Mental Health Awareness Week in the UK. We will welcome a host of new signatories, have an update on broader developments with the MBC and hear from two speakers: DR EMMA JONES is a senior lecturer in law at the University of Sheffield with a particular interest in emotions and wellbeing within the profession. Emma is part of the International Bar Association’s global task force on mental health and wellbeing (of which Richard Martin is also part) and she will summarise both the findings of the recent global survey conducted by the IBA as well as the commentary on those findings from a team of academics that she led. She will particularly focus on those aspects that relate to the culture and environment in which we operate and which, of course, is what the MBC is all about. Although legal profession focussed, the insight is global and, like the Charter, of far broader sector relevance. DR MARK BERELOWITZ is a Consultant Child Psychiatrist at the Royal Free Hospital in London. Along with his Thai colleague Dr Tee, Mark studied the Thai boys football team who were trapped in a cave in the summer of 2018, and identified key themes to their resilience and survival. More recently Mark has been involved in supporting frontline clinical NHS staff during the COVID pandemic, and is helping the hospital plan for the post pandemic recovery. Mark will draw on these and other learnings to offer insight into organisational resilience and what our organisations can be doing to enable each of us to make a difference, for ourselves and for each other. There will be time for Q & A and the event will close around 6.45pm. Please register using the link below to let us know that you will be attending.

It is a great opportunity to introduce and promote the Charter to a US audience. If you have US colleagues or offices, or US clients or contacts, please take a moment to think about whether you want to send them the link and encourage them to join the event. MBC and our technology - A workshop on creating a healthy digital culture at work - 20 July 11am to 12.30pm

Tuesday, July 20, 2021

You can’t really think about MBC without thinking about digital technology and how we interact with it. It is a great enabler but at the same time digital tools are reported by employees to be one of their greatest sources of workplace stress and disruptors to work life balance - when asked 83% say their digital causes them stress and overwhelm and 90% say distractions from technology impairs their performance at work. Shine Offline (please see www.shineoffline.com for more information about them and their work) have been working with organisations for many years to help them think about digital wellbeing and our relationship with our technology. Over the last couple of years they have been working with some MBC signatories to expressly build this thinking into the organisations’ MBC strategy. We wanted to share that thinking more broadly with the signatory group. We have invited Shine Offline Co-founder and digital wellbeing and management expert Laura Willis to run an exclusive MBC focussed 90 minute webinar to help us to explore our current digital habits and the impact they are having on ourselves and colleagues. Effective email management, meaningful meetings, good use of workplace digital technologies to maximise collaboration and minimise overload, and successful out of hours work tech management will all be addressed. Laura will share insights from the worlds of neuroscience and psychology as well as learnings from a host of businesses Shine Offline have worked with over the past 5 years.

A Mindful return to office life - 15th September 12pm

Wednesday, September 15, 2021

The changes businesses required of their people to adapt to lockdown changed the dynamic of the employer/employee relationship. Remote working lowered the barriers to the workplace and fostered inclusion as a result. As businesses around the world start to reopen their offices in earnest, we take a mindful look at some of these dynamics and what employers should keep in mind as the next wave of change is presented to their people. This event will feature Philip Aiken from Barclays and a panel of other MBC trustees offering a range of different perspectives.
